Algolia Account Setup

Setting up your Algolia account

Algolia powers the search box on your website. It lets visitors find what they need instantly, and it sends you a weekly report showing what people have been searching for.

Setting it up takes about five minutes and happens in three steps

Before you start

You will need an @nhs.net email address for the practice. Use a shared practice address rather than a personal one where you can, because this is where your weekly search reports will be sent, and they should keep arriving if the person who set the account up moves on

Step 1: Create the accout

Go to algolia.com and create an account for the surgery using your practice @nhs.net address.

When you are asked to set a password, please create a one-off password just for this. Do not use a password you use anywhere else.

Step 2: Confirm your email address

Algolia will send a confirmation email to the address you used. Open it and confirm the address. If it has not arrived within a few minutes, check your junk and spam folders.

Step 3: Send us your details

Now that you have created an Algolia account, complete the form below.

Once your account is set up, use the form below to send us what we need. It takes about a
minute.

Send us your Algolia account details

Please do not email these details to us. Login details that reach us by email have to be deleted and recorded as a data protection incident, and we will have to ask you to set up the account again. The form exists so that does not happen.

What happens next

We will use your details to configure search on your website, then delete them.

When setup is complete we will email you to confirm, and at that point we will ask you to
change your Algolia password. Please do change it, because we will not be able to do it for you

Common questions

Why do you need my password?

To configure search on your website we need to sign in to your Algolia account and set it up.
That is why we ask you to create a one-off password rather than one you use elsewhere, and
why we ask you to change it as soon as we are finished.

Why can’t I just email you the details?

Email is not a safe place for login details. When credentials reach us that way we have to delete
them and record a data protection incident, and you then have to set the account up again. The form avoids all of that.

I already have an Algolia account for the practice. What do I do?

Go straight to the form and send us the account email address and a one-off password. Changethe password to a one-off one first if the current one is used anywhere else.

Who at the practice should do this?

Anyone with access to a practice @nhs.net mailbox. It does not need to be a clinician or a
manager.
