What is an Media Item

Why do I see when editing content, for example %%media-22%%

A Media Item is a convenient way to add additional functionality to content without having to keep re-applying additional html content every time. Especially if you accidentally remove some of the html content when editing!

They are numbered uniquely, 

In addition to this, they provide a way of centrally controlling elements on the site which you may need to update.

We use it to control the clickable links for telephone numbers, which means that we can update all the pages at once.
